Abstract
Corn (Zea mays L.) is an important food crop in Indonesia that plays a strategic role in the national economy as a source of food, feed, and industrial raw materials. One of the causes of low maize productivity is pest and disease problems that can cause losses in both quality and quantity. One type of pest and two types of disease attack maize plants, namely armyworm, leaf spot, and leaf rust. Pest and disease control that farmers widely practice is using pesticides to maximize productivity. This study was conducted to see the usefulness of pesticides in controlling pests and diseases in corn plants. The method used was by conducting interviews and field observations. Based on the results of research on corn farmers have an average age of more than 60 years with the highest level of education SMA. The land used in farmer cultivation is borrowed by the landowner. Insect pests found were Spodoptera frugiferda, while diseases found were leaf sheath and leaf rust. Pests and diseases that attack corn plants have different levels of attack.
