Abstract

Palm oil processing produces various wastes where one of the wastes produced is palm press fiber. These fibers only accumulate and become a problem in the company so it is necessary to find alternative uses to be used as new products. Palm fiber is one of the natural fibers that can be used as white fiber (white cellulose). However, the high content of impuritis levels in oil palm fibers can reduce the quality of the white fiber produced. The purpose of the study was to determine the concentration of NaOH and Soaking Time to determine the level of impurities in oil palm fibers in accordance with SNI 12 6094-1999. The experimental design used in this study was a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely NaOH concentration consisting of 3 levels, namely 10%, 15%, 20% and the immersion time which consisted of 3 levels, namely 1 hour, 1.5 hours and 2 hours. The results showed the lowest impurity content of 12.6% at 2-hour soaking in 20% NaOH solution and after further analysis, the lowest impurity level was 3% at 24-hour immersion in 90% NaOH solution and the lowest fiber water content of 3.3%.
