Abstract

The representation of new masculinity in Islamic film genres is considered crucial as a preventive approach to violence against women and children. Traditional masculinity is often associated with domination and violence, whereas inclusive and humanistic masculinity offers greater potential to create a safe and equal social environment. This study aims to analyze the potential of humanistic masculinity depicted in Islamic films as a model for preventing gender-based violence and its relevance for wider gender equality campaigns. This research employs multimodal critical discourse analysis to examine how Islamic film genres represent new forms of masculinity that support gender equality and reduce gender-based violence. The focus of this study is on the discourse surrounding the role of men in supporting women, caregiving, and emotional openness. CDA is used to explore how narratives, characters, and social interactions in these films create more inclusive masculinity discourses. The analysis reveals that Islamic films promote a form of humanistic masculinity in which men are involved in domestic roles, show empathy, and provide support to women, fellow men, and children. This model serves as a potential prototype for preventing gender-based violence and is relevant to broader gender equality campaigns. The implications of this research underscore the importance of representing new masculinity in education to raise awareness of more inclusive and equitable gender models.
